MonthOne

Weeks 1 & 2:

The first month is spent making baby. It starts with the first day of your last period. At approximately two weeks, ovulation occurs and then conception. The hormones released caused your body to miss your period which may have been your first sign of pregnancy. Other women can experience nausea, tender breasts, and bloating as early as 10 days past ovulation, before they’ve even missed their period.

Week 3

bfp, pregnancy, expectingYour baby is a tiny cluster of about 200 cells by the time it enters your uterus (a few days after conception) and already has a determined sex. Sex is determined by the male (each parent donates one chromosome, mom always gives an X because women are XX, men can donate an X or a Y because they are XY). Your rapidly growing little one can float around in your uterus for a couple days before finding 'just the right spot' to implant.

Week 4

This week some women can experience a bit of spotting (perhaps even heavy enough to mimic the start of your cycle). This is due to a slight sloughing of the uterine wall during implantation. You may also begin to "feel" pregnant as your little one's placenta begins to form and churn out all those extra hormones (estrogen, progesterone and human chorionic gonadotropin). Symptoms of pregnancy may begin to appear; some women will get every single one, some only a few and others have no discomfort at all (we all hate those - ok... its more jelousy than hate, but you get the idea).

This is about the time that women begin to suspect they are pregnant and may purchase a home pregnancy test. Knowing the sensitivities of these tests will help you to reduce the risk of a false negative. Some tests are a lot more sensitive than others. The most sensitive test is a blood test which can be performed by your health care provider.

Choice

Where do babies come from? Don't bother asking adults. They lie like pigs. However, diligent independent research and hours of playground consultation have yielded fruitful, if tentative, results. There are several theories. Near as we can figure out, it has something to do with acting ridiculous in the dark. We believe it is similar to dogs when they act peculiar and ride each other. This is called "making love". Careful study of popular song lyrics, advertising catch-lines, TV sitcoms, movies, and T-Shirt inscriptions offers us significant clues as to its nature. Apparently it makes grown-ups insipid and insane. Some graffiti was once observed that said 'sex is good'. All available evidence, however, points to the contrary.
