Weekend Update: Swiffers & Red Velvet Cake

* “*Crocheted Swiffer cloths:*”:http://www.ravelry.com/projects/vahnee/crochet-biffer-shrug Have been on a stash-busting mission to get rid of my closetful of old yarn. Found this awesome “pattern for making reusable Swiffer cloths”:http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/crochet-biffer-shrug and made a few. They work GREAT! I have hardwood floors, so I soak them in a solution of 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar, 2 tbsp sunflower oil and about 4-5 cups of hot water. I wring one out and use it, then rinse it off and toss it back into the solution to re-use as needed. Grab another one, wring it out, use, rinse, etc. When I’m done, they get tossed in my rags bin to be washed in the washing machine on the “Sanitize” cycle and everything comes out sparkling clean. The nicest thing about this is the floor cleaner. Not only does it smell naturally clean, but I can dress it up with a few drops of essential oil if I’m in the mood. Another bonus is that my hands are wonderfully soft afterwards. :-)

* “*FlyLady – success & FAIL:*”:http://www.flylady.net/ I’ve been commited to the FlyLady method of house management this past week and it’s been good.. and bad. The good is pretty obvious; I’ve had a generally cleaner house (even though I’m still decluttering a LOT) and have still had time to blog, knit, etc. I’ve been in a better mood for it all, and even though I’ve been home, pregnant, and with a toddler, it’s been a good week. So what’s the downside? That the spouse has been home over the weekend and I’m starting to realize just how messy he is!! Before, the messiness would pile up and you just couldn’t tell who had caused it by the end of the day. Now, I leave the kitchen spotless and come back to a miniature disaster every time. Seriously. I’m going to have to start taking BEFORE & AFTER pictures to prove it. In the meantime, I find myself scolding over and over again, “Leave it better than you found it!” Gaaah.

* “*Red Velvet Cake & True Blood:*”:http://pinchmysalt.com/2008/11/10/red-velvet-cake-recipe/ OMG, is this not the GREATEST idea ever? I’m going to make myself a red velvet cake sometime this week. Then I’m going to camp out in front of the TV and watch tonight’s TiVo’d _True Blood_. If I had local girlsfriends, I’d totally have them over for this, but I’m a crunchy preggo SAHM blogger. Nuff said, and more for me in the meantime… ;-)

p. That’s about it from here. Midwife coming over later this evening to check on the bun in la oven. How about you? *How was YOUR weekend?*

I’ve started doing some of the Flylady stuff too! I have to keep reminding myself that it doesn’t have to be perfect, just better than it was before. Red velvet cake is one of my faves – I’ll be over in a jiff!

Good reminder on the “not perfection” idea – I seriously keep forgetting that and then end up getting bummed out. :-/ Didn’t make the red velvet cake yet and haven’t watched this week’s True Blood yet! Maybe tomorrow; I’m saving it as my reward for good FlyLady behaviour. ;-)

LOVE the Swiffer idea – will have to give it a try! And the cake sounds delish! :)

Yeah, they really do work great – planning to whip up a few more for a friend as a gift later today. :-)

to be honest, I`ve never heard of a red velvet cake before and I`ve no idea how it tastes, but it really sounds quite yum yum and I`ll try it for sure

nellchen: I’m with you there – I’ve really only tried a cupcake, but it was truly sinful… :-)
